The story
A hand-inlaid jewelry box from Sorrento, cut and fitted piece by piece in malva veneer with a dancers scene. Opens to a wind-up melody: "Torna a Surriento".
The craft
Each piece is cut and fitted entirely by hand, using nothing but a thin fret saw and a hand-drawn pencil design. Every sliver of wood is chosen for its natural colour, then set edge to edge into the panel like a mosaic before the whole surface is sanded and lacquered by hand.
